Fiona J. Harden

Qualifications:
BSc (Hons) Mathematics-Physics (University of Aberdeen)
PhD in Physics (University of Aberdeen)

Areas of expertise:
Biomaterials research.
Hydroxyapatite and silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite synthesis.
Characterisation of materials using X-ray Powder Diffraction and Raman Spectroscopy.
Knowledge of bone graft industry/synthetic bone graft substitutes.
Experience of working in both academic and industrial environments.
Experience handing human bone, i.e. osteoarthritic and osteoporotic femoral heads.
Collagen investigations using small angle neutron scattering.
Demonstrator for physics labs.
Tutor for mathematics and physics courses.
Mentor to final year honours student.
Communication skills through conference, university and work experiences.
