Dear BRS Friends and Colleagues,
Twenty years after the BRS last held its annual meeting in Birmingham, we are delighted to be bringing the Society back to the heart of the UK for BRS Annual Meeting 2027!
Birmingham is a city built on innovation, ingenuity and collaboration, indeed the city’s official tag line, ‘Be Bold, Be Birmingham’ speaks to its extraordinary industrial heritage and its thriving universities, hospitals and life-sciences community. This feels like a particularly fitting home for a meeting devoted to pushing the boundaries of bone research.
The city is home to a vibrant musculoskeletal research community, with internationally recognised work spanning bone biology and remodelling, inflammatory arthritis, osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal ageing, regenerative medicine and translational research. Bringing together basic scientists, clinicians, engineers and industry partners, Birmingham reflects much of what makes the BRS community special: interdisciplinary, collaborative and focused on turning discovery into better understanding and treatment of musculoskeletal disease.
And there is plenty to discover beyond the science. The conference venue is on the waterside in the heart of Birmingham’s city centre, which has changed almost beyond recognition since BRS was last here twenty years ago. In between sessions, you can take a short stroll along the canal to the Black Sabbath memorial bridge, visit the Shakespeare Memorial Room within the new Library of Birmingham or wander the recently renovated Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Or you might simply enjoy the easy transport links to one of the UK’s most connected cities and admire Ozzy the enormous mechanical bull when you arrive at Birmingham New Street station.
We’re excited to welcome the BRS community back to Brum twenty years on, and with plenty to show you.
Best wishes,
Doctor Amy Naylor
